ת"ר: בתולה צליינית, ואלמנה שובבית, וקטן שלא כלו לו חדשיו, הרי אלו מבלי עולם. איני? והאמר רבי יוחנן: למדנו יראת חטא מבתולה, וקיבול שכר מאלמנה... קיבול שכר מאלמנה: דההיא אלמנה דהואי בי כנישתא בשיבבותה. כל יומא הות אתיא ומצלה בי מדרשיה דר' יוחנן. אמר לה: בתי, לא בית הכנסת בשיבבותך? אמרה ליה רבי ולא שכר פסיעות יש לי?
It was taught: A prayerful maiden, a neighborly widow, and a minor whose months are not complete, these are the ruiners of the world.
Is this so? But Rav Yochanan said: we have learned the fear of sin from a prayerful maiden and receipt of reward from a neighborly widow...What do we mean the receipt of reward from a widow? There was a certain widow in whose neighborhood there was a shul. Nevertheless, every day she would come daven at the Shul of Rav Yochanan. He asked her: is there not a shul in your neighborhood? She replied: do I not have reward for the extra steps I take?
"והיא יושבת תחת תומר". ד"א והיא יושבת תחת תומר לפי שאין דרכה של אשה להתיחד בתוך הבית לכך דבורה הולכת ויושבת תחת צלו של דקל ומלמדת תורה ברבים.
"And she was sitting under the tree" Some say: she was sitting under the tree since it wasn't normal for a woman to be alone in her house with a man therefore she went out and sat under the shade of a tree and taught Torah from there to the masses.
(ה) רבי אליעזר בן יעקב אומר, אשה בת גרים לא תנשא לכהנה, עד שתהא אמה מישראל. אחד גרים ואחד עבדים משחררים ואפלו עד עשרה דורות, עד שתהא אמן מישראל. האפוטרופוס והשליח והעבד והאשה וטומטום ואנדרוגינוס, מביאין ולא קורין, שאינן יכולין לומר אשר נתתה לי ה'.
(5) Rabbi Eli'ezer ben Ya'akov says, a woman who is the daughter of converts cannot marry into the Kohen class, unless her mother is an Israelite; [this ruling applies to] both converts and freed slaves, and even after ten generations [from the original convert/freed slave], until their mother is an Israelite. A trustee of an estate, an agent, a slave, a woman, a Tumtum [person of unidentifiable sex] and an Androgynos [an intersex person] all bring but do not recite, since they cannot say, "[the land] that You, God, have given me."
תנו רבנן: בראשונה היו נשים מבפנים ואנשים מבחוץ; והיו באים לידי קלות ראש התקינו שיהו נשים יושבות מבחוץ ואנשים מבפנים. ועדיין היו באין לידי קלות ראש. התקינו שיהו נשים יושבות מלמעלה ואנשים מלמטה.
Our rabbis have taught: Originally the women used to sit within [the Court of the Women] while the men were outside, but this would cause levity, it was instituted that the women should sit outside and the men inside. But they would still come to levity. It was instituted that the women should sit above and the men below.
