Is Genesis 1-5 guilty of presenting the woman in a sexist or misogynist fashion, making her the cause of mortality and other human sufferings?
The idea of two great lights are introduced to parallel men and women. The first light is greater, second one is lesser.
(27) And God created humankind in the divine image,
creating it in the image of God—
creating them male and female. (28) God blessed them and God said to them, “Be fertile and increase, fill the earth and master it; and rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, and all the living things that creep on earth.”
1:26 "adam" as man is created in God’s image (not woman). Woman hadn’t yet been created and man is dominating the other animals. The second item in a list is less important, man is always listed first.
1:26 "adam" refers to humankind, both male and female are in God’s image; they are created equally at the same time. Fertility is primarily the woman’s role and God’s first instruction is something that woman needs to fulfill. God only blesses man and woman after woman appears, it was only ‘good’ after woman appears on 6th day.
Chapter 2 begins focusing only on "adam" as man, God takes more care and attention to man, woman is an afterthought.
(טו) וַיִּקַּ֛ח יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהִ֖ים אֶת־הָֽאָדָ֑ם וַיַּנִּחֵ֣הוּ בְגַן־עֵ֔דֶן לְעׇבְדָ֖הּ וּלְשׇׁמְרָֽהּ׃ (טז) וַיְצַו֙ יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהִ֔ים עַל־הָֽאָדָ֖ם לֵאמֹ֑ר מִכֹּ֥ל עֵֽץ־הַגָּ֖ן אָכֹ֥ל תֹּאכֵֽל׃ (יז) וּמֵעֵ֗ץ הַדַּ֙עַת֙ ט֣וֹב וָרָ֔ע לֹ֥א תֹאכַ֖ל מִמֶּ֑נּוּ כִּ֗י בְּי֛וֹם אֲכׇלְךָ֥ מִמֶּ֖נּוּ מ֥וֹת תָּמֽוּת׃ (יח) וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהִ֔ים לֹא־ט֛וֹב הֱי֥וֹת הָֽאָדָ֖ם לְבַדּ֑וֹ אֶֽעֱשֶׂה־לּ֥וֹ עֵ֖זֶר כְּנֶגְדּֽוֹ׃ (יט) וַיִּ֩צֶר֩ יְהֹוָ֨ה אֱלֹהִ֜ים מִן־הָֽאֲדָמָ֗ה כׇּל־חַיַּ֤ת הַשָּׂדֶה֙ וְאֵת֙ כׇּל־ע֣וֹף הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם וַיָּבֵא֙ אֶל־הָ֣אָדָ֔ם לִרְא֖וֹת מַה־יִּקְרָא־ל֑וֹ וְכֹל֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר יִקְרָא־ל֧וֹ הָֽאָדָ֛ם נֶ֥פֶשׁ חַיָּ֖ה ה֥וּא שְׁמֽוֹ׃ (כ) וַיִּקְרָ֨א הָֽאָדָ֜ם שֵׁמ֗וֹת לְכׇל־הַבְּהֵמָה֙ וּלְע֣וֹף הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם וּלְכֹ֖ל חַיַּ֣ת הַשָּׂדֶ֑ה וּלְאָדָ֕ם לֹֽא־מָצָ֥א עֵ֖זֶר כְּנֶגְדּֽוֹ׃
(15) God יהוה settled the Human in the garden of Eden, to till it and tend it. (16) And God יהוה commanded the Human, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you are free to eat; (17) but as for the tree of knowledge of good and bad, you must not eat of it; for as soon as you eat of it, you shall die.” (18) God יהוה said, “It is not good for the Human to be alone; I will make a fitting counterpart for him.” (19) And God יהוה formed out of the earth all the wild beasts and all the birds of the sky, and brought them to the Human to see what he would call them; and whatever the Human called each living creature, that would be its name. (20) And the Human gave names to all the cattle and to the birds of the sky and to all the wild beasts; but no fitting counterpart for a human being was found.
2:17 God is speaking only to man, man as worthy of God’s voice.
2:18 God makes a helper for man, woman is only created because of man’s existence in the first place.
Before woman arrives, man names all of the animals, or man is in Eden before the woman gets there.
Ezer ke-negdo: One approach, suggested by R. David Freedman, uses the meaning of its Ugaritic cognate ǵ-z-r “strong, powerful.” Woman as powerful counterpart to man; ke’neged could mean equal/opposite not in space but in terms of parity.

2:21 Neither man or woman is complete without the other; man is not in his final form until woman is also present.
2:23 Adam’s words flesh of my flesh indicate equality.
3:6 The woman does the first sin by listening to the serpent.
3:6 Man and woman equally eat the fruit. The female role is prominent in the text. She engages in dialogue first, the woman is seeking wisdom.

By hard labor shall you eat of it
All the days of your life:
(18) Thorns and thistles shall it sprout for you. But your food shall be the grasses of the field;(19) By the sweat of your brow
Shall you get bread to eat, Until you return to the ground—For from it you were taken. For dust you are, And to dust you shall return.”
3:16 Woman is punished harshly for her sin.

Discussion
How do you understand the balance between men and women in the opening chapters of Genesis? When you look solely at the text itself, do you see Genesis as a sexist creation story?
Later rabbinic and medieval sources can be overtly sexist and misogynist, see for example this excerpt from Genesis Rabbah. When we focus only on the biblical text, the portrayal of genders is less clear cut than the later sources would have us believe.
Rabbi Yehoshua of Sichnin said in the name of Rabbi Levi: "And He built" is written; He contemplated from where to create her. He said: I will not create her from the head, lest she be haughty; I will not create her from the eye, lest she be coquettish; I will not create her from the ear, lest she be an eavesdropper; I will not create her from the mouth, lest she be a chatter-box; I will not create her from the heart, lest she be jealous; I will not create her from the hand, lest she be a thief; I will not create her from the leg, lest she be a run-about; rather, I will create create her from the most modest place on a person, as even when a person stands naked this place is covered. And as He created each and every limb of the woman, He would say to her: be a modest woman, be a modest woman! Nevertheless, "And they have disregarded all of my counsel" (Proverbs 1:25). I did not create her from the head, and yet she is haughty, as it says: "And they walk with stretched-forth necks" (Isaiah 3:16). And not from the eye, yet she is coquettish, as it says: "and with wanton eyes" (ibid.). And not from the ear, and yet she is an eavesdropper, as it says: "And Sarah listened from the entrance of the tent" (Genesis 18:10). And not from the heart, and yet she is jealous, as it says: "And Rachel was jealous of her sister" (Genesis 30:1). And not from the hand, and yet she is a thief, as it says: "And Rachel stole the idols" (Genesis 31:19). And not from the leg, and yet she is a run-about, as it says: "And Dinah went out..." (Genesis 34:1).
