(1) And it shall be, when thou art come in unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and dost possess it, and dwell therein; (2) that thou shalt take of the first of all the fruit of the ground, which thou shalt bring in from thy land that the LORD thy God giveth thee; and thou shalt put it in a basket and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose to cause His name to dwell there.

The entire issue of Bikkurim is to remove from your thoughts the fact that this is your land and to instill the fact that it is the Land which God gives you.

-Akeida

Through this mitzvah you prove that you are entering Eretz Yisrael not just to eat from her fruit and benefit from the good there, but to fulfill the Mitzvot. With the Bikkurim you show your dedication. After a farmer worked and labored for months to raise a crop, it would be natural for him to wish to taste the fruits of his labor. Yet, he brings his first and best fruits as an offering to God.

-MeOrah Shel Torah

"You shall take from the first" means that you shall take the Torah which is called "The first" - The beginning of wisdom (Psalm 111:10). In the next world, the first thing one is asked is if he had learned Torah. See to it, therefore, that you learn Torah in this world, so that you will have something to take with you into the next.
