(כה) וַיַּעֲלוּ מִמִּצְרָיִם וַיָּבֹאוּ אֶרֶץ כְּנַעַן אֶל יַעֲקֹב אֲבִיהֶם. (כו) וַיַּגִּדוּ לוֹ לֵאמֹר עוֹד יוֹסֵף חַי וְכִי הוּא מֹשֵׁל בְּכָל אֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם וַיָּפָג לִבּוֹ כִּי לֹא הֶאֱמִין לָהֶם. (כז) וַיְדַבְּרוּ אֵלָיו אֵת כָּל דִּבְרֵי יוֹסֵף אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר אֲלֵהֶם וַיַּרְא אֶת הָעֲגָלוֹת אֲשֶׁר שָׁלַח יוֹסֵף לָשֵׂאת אֹתוֹ וַתְּחִי רוּחַ יַעֲקֹב אֲבִיהֶם.
(25) And they went up out of Egypt, and came to the land of Canaan to Jacob their father. (26) And they told him, saying: ‘Joseph is still alive, and he is ruler over all the land of Egypt.’ And his heart fainted for he did not believe them. (27) And they told him all the words of Joseph, which he had said unto them; and when he saw the wagons which Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of Jacob their father revived.
() "את כל דברי יוסף" - סימן מסר להם במה היה עוסק כשפירש ממנו בפרשת עגלה ערופה זהו שנאמר וירא את העגלות אשר שלח יוסף ולא נאמר אשר שלח פרעה,"ותחי רוח יעקב" - שרתה עליו שכינה שפירשה ממנו
(א) כִּי יִמָּצֵא חָלָל בָּאֲדָמָה אֲשֶׁר יְ-הוָה אֱ-לֹהֶיךָ נֹתֵן לְךָ לְרִשְׁתָּהּ נֹפֵל בַּשָּׂדֶה לֹא נוֹדַע מִי הִכָּהוּ. (ב) וְיָצְאוּ זְקֵנֶיךָ וְשֹׁפְטֶיךָ וּמָדְדוּ אֶל הֶעָרִים אֲשֶׁר סְבִיבֹת הֶחָלָל. (ג) וְהָיָה הָעִיר הַקְּרֹבָה אֶל הֶחָלָל וְלָקְחוּ זִקְנֵי הָעִיר הַהִוא עֶגְלַת בָּקָר אֲשֶׁר לֹא עֻבַּד בָּהּ אֲשֶׁר לֹא מָשְׁכָה בְּעֹל. (ד) וְהוֹרִדוּ זִקְנֵי הָעִיר הַהִוא אֶת הָעֶגְלָה אֶל נַחַל אֵיתָן אֲשֶׁר לֹא יֵעָבֵד בּוֹ וְלֹא יִזָּרֵעַ וְעָרְפוּ שָׁם אֶת הָעֶגְלָה בַּנָּחַל. (ה) וְנִגְּשׁוּ הַכֹּהֲנִים בְּנֵי לֵוִי כִּי בָם בָּחַר יְ-הוָה אֱ-לֹהֶיךָ לְשָׁרְתוֹ וּלְבָרֵךְ בְּשֵׁם יְ-הוָה וְעַל פִּיהֶם יִהְיֶה כָּל רִיב וְכָל נָגַע. (ו) וְכֹל זִקְנֵי הָעִיר הַהִוא הַקְּרֹבִים אֶל הֶחָלָל יִרְחֲצוּ אֶת יְדֵיהֶם עַל הָעֶגְלָה הָעֲרוּפָה בַנָּחַל. (ז) וְעָנוּ וְאָמְרוּ יָדֵינוּ לֹא שפכה [שָׁפְכוּ] אֶת הַדָּם הַזֶּה וְעֵינֵינוּ לֹא רָאוּ. (ח) כַּפֵּר לְעַמְּךָ יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר פָּדִיתָ יְהוָה וְאַל תִּתֵּן דָּם נָקִי בְּקֶרֶב עַמְּךָ יִשְׂרָאֵל וְנִכַּפֵּר לָהֶם הַדָּם. (ט)
(1) If a corpse is found slain, lying in the field of the land given by G-d for your possession, and it is not known who murdered him; (2) then the elders and the judges shall come forth and measure to the cities which around the corpse. (3) And it shall be, that the elders of the city which is nearest the corpse shall take a calf of the herd which has not been worked, and which has not drawn a yoke. (4) And the elders of that city shall bring the calf to a rough valley, neither plowed nor sown, and shall break the calf's neck there in the valley. (5) And the priests, the sons of Levi, shall come near—for them G-d has chosen to minister to Him and to bless in the name of the Lord; and according to their word shall every controversy be resolved. (6) And all the elders of that city who are nearest the corpse shall wash their hands over the calf whose neck was broken in the valley. (7) And they shall speak and say: ‘Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it. (8) Forgive us, O LORD, Your people Israel, whom You have redeemed, and innocent blood shall not remain in the midst of Your people Israel.’ And the blood atone for them.
(א) "ידינו לא שפכה" - וכי עלתה על לב שזקני בית דין שופכי דמים הם אלא לא ראינוהו ופטרנוהו בלא מזונות ובלא לויה
כִּי תִרְאֶה עָרֹם וְכִסִּיתוֹ
When thou see the naked, you shall cover him
(ט) וַיִּזְכֹּר יוֹסֵף אֵת הַחֲלֹמוֹת אֲשֶׁר חָלַם לָהֶם וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵהֶם מְרַגְּלִים אַתֶּם לִרְאוֹת אֶת עֶרְוַת הָאָרֶץ בָּאתֶם.
(9) And Joseph remembered the dreams which he dreamed of them, and said to them: ‘You are spies; to see the nakedness of the land you have come.’
