B'ha'alotekha
(לה) וַיְהִ֛י בִּנְסֹ֥עַ הָאָרֹ֖ן וַיֹּ֣אמֶר מֹשֶׁ֑ה קוּמָ֣ה ׀ יי וְיָפֻ֙צוּ֙ אֹֽיְבֶ֔יךָ וְיָנֻ֥סוּ מְשַׂנְאֶ֖יךָ מִפָּנֶֽיךָ׃ (לו) וּבְנֻחֹ֖ה יֹאמַ֑ר שׁוּבָ֣ה יי רִֽבְב֖וֹת אַלְפֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (׆) (ס)

(35) And it came to pass, when the ark set forward, Moses said: ‘Rise up, O G-d, and let Your enemies be scattered; and let them that hate You flee before You.’ (36) And when it rested, he said: ‘Return, O G-d, unto the ten thousands of the families of Israel.’

(רה) וַיְהִי בִּנְסעַ הָאָרן וַיּאמֶר משֶׁה קוּמָה יי וְיָפֻצוּ איְבֶיךָ וְיָנֻסוּ מְשנְאֶיךָ מִפָּנֶיךָ:

כִּי מִצִּיּון תֵּצֵא תורָה וּדְבַר יי מִירוּשָׁלָיִם:בָּרוּךְ שֶׁנָּתַן תּורָה לְעַמּו יִשרָאֵל בִּקְדֻשָּׁתו:

And it happened, when the Ark began its journey, that Moses said: Arise, ASCENDANT ONE, and may Your enemies be scattered, May the ones who oppose you be afraid of Your might!

Behold, out of Zion emerges our Torah, and the word of THE WISE ONE from Jerusalem's heights. Blessed is G-d who has given us Torah, to Israel, our people, with holy intent.

(רכה) וּבְנֻחה יאמַר שׁוּבָה יי רִבְבות אַלְפֵי יִשרָאֵל:

כִּי לֶקַח טוב נָתַתִּי לָכֶם. תּורָתִי אַל תַּעֲזבוּ: עֵץ חַיִּים הִיא לַמַּחֲזִיקִים בָּהּ. וְתמְכֶיהָ מְאֻשָּׁר:דְּרָכֶיהָ דַרְכֵי נעַם וְכָל נְתִיבותֶיהָ שָׁלום:הֲשִׁיבֵנוּ יי אֵלֶיךָ וְנָשׁוּבָה. חַדֵּשׁ יָמֵינוּ כְּקֶדֶם:

And when the Ark was set at rest, they would proclaim: Restore, ETERNAL ONE, the many thousand troops of Israel!

For it is a precious teaching I have given you, my Torah: Don't abandon it! It is a Tree of Life to those who hold fast to it, all who uphold it may be counted fortunate. Its ways are ways of pleasantness, and all its paths are peace. Return us, PRECIOUS ONE, let us return! Renew our days, as you have done of old!

(יח) עַל־פִּ֣י יי יִסְעוּ֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְעַל־פִּ֥י יי יַחֲנ֑וּ כָּל־יְמֵ֗י אֲשֶׁ֨ר יִשְׁכֹּ֧ן הֶעָנָ֛ן עַל־הַמִּשְׁכָּ֖ן יַחֲנֽוּ׃ (יט) וּבְהַאֲרִ֧יךְ הֶֽעָנָ֛ן עַל־הַמִּשְׁכָּ֖ן יָמִ֣ים רַבִּ֑ים וְשָׁמְר֧וּ בְנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל אֶת־מִשְׁמֶ֥רֶת יי וְלֹ֥א יִסָּֽעוּ׃ (כ) וְיֵ֞שׁ אֲשֶׁ֨ר יִהְיֶ֧ה הֶֽעָנָ֛ן יָמִ֥ים מִסְפָּ֖ר עַל־הַמִּשְׁכָּ֑ן עַל־פִּ֤י יי יַחֲנ֔וּ וְעַל־פִּ֥י יי יִסָּֽעוּ׃

(18) At the command of G-d the Israelites journeyed, and at the command of G-d they encamped: as long as the cloud rested upon the tabernacle they remained encamped. (19) And when the cloud stayed upon the tabernacle many days, then the Israelites kept the charge of G-d, and didn't journey. (20) And sometimes the cloud was a few days upon the tabernacle; by G-d's command they remained encamped; according to G-d's command, they journeyed.

Midrash Sifrei

"And Moses said, rise up, G-d," and another verse says: "At G-d's command they rested and at G-d's command they journeyed." How can these two verses be reconciled? To what may this be compared? To a king who was going on a journey accompanied by his closest friend. When he resumes his journey he says: I shall not go forward until my friend gives the order, and when he halts he says: I shall not halt until my friend says he is ready to halt. This reconciles the verses "And Moses said, rise up, G-d," and

"At G-d's command they rested and at G-d's command they journeyed."
