Rabbi Hama bar Hanina and Rabbi Hoshaia the Elder were strolling in the synagogues in Lud. Said Rabbi Hama bar Hanina to Rabbi Hoshaia: How much money did my forebears invest here in these synagogues? He said to him: How many lives did your forebears invest here! Were there not people who were laboring in Torah who needed the money more? Rabbi Abun made the gates of the great hall of study. Rabbi Mana came to him. Abun said to him: See what I have made!
