(7) And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and set before them all these words which GOD commanded him. (8) And all the people answered together, and said: ‘All that GOD has spoken we will do.’ And Moses reported the words of the people unto GOD.
(20) And Ahab sent to all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together to mount Carmel. (21) And Elijah approached all the people, and said: ‘How long will you hop between two opinions? If GOD is God, follow after him; but if Baal, follow after him.’ And the people answered him not a word.
(15) And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the voice of the Shofar, and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it, they trembled, and stood far away. (16) And they said to Moses: ‘You speak with us, and we will hear; but don't have GOD speak with us, lest we die.’
(38) Then the fire of GOD fell, and consumed the burnt-offering, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. (39) And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said: ‘The LORD, He is God; the LORD, He is God.’
(20) And (GOD) said: ‘You can not see My face, for a person shall not see Me and live.’ (21) And the GOD said: ‘Behold, there is a place by me, and you shall stand upon the rock. (22) And it shall come to pass, when My glory passes by, that I will put you in a cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand until I have passed by. (23) Then I will take away My hand, and you will see My back; but My face shall not be seen.’
(יא) וַיֹּ֗אמֶר צֵ֣א וְעָמַדְתָּ֣ בָהָר֮ לִפְנֵ֣י ה' וְהִנֵּ֧ה ה' עֹבֵ֗ר וְר֣וּחַ גְּדוֹלָ֡ה וְחָזָ֞ק מְפָרֵק֩ הָרִ֨ים וּמְשַׁבֵּ֤ר סְלָעִים֙ לִפְנֵ֣י ה' לֹ֥א בָר֖וּחַ ה' וְאַחַ֤ר הָר֨וּחַ רַ֔עַשׁ לֹ֥א בָרַ֖עַשׁ ה' (יב) וְאַחַ֤ר הָרַ֙עַשׁ֙ אֵ֔שׁ לֹ֥א בָאֵ֖שׁ ה' וְאַחַ֣ר הָאֵ֔שׁ ק֖וֹל דְּמָמָ֥ה דַקָּֽה׃ (יג) וַיְהִ֣י ׀ כִּשְׁמֹ֣עַ אֵלִיָּ֗הוּ וַיָּ֤לֶט פָּנָיו֙ בְּאַדַּרְתּ֔וֹ וַיֵּצֵ֕א וַֽיַּעֲמֹ֖ד פֶּ֣תַח הַמְּעָרָ֑ה...
(11) And (the heavenly voice) said: ‘Go forth, and stand upon the mount before GOD.’ And, behold, GOD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and broke in pieces the rocks before GOD; but GOD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake; but GOD was not in the earthquake; (12) and after the earthquake a fire; but GOD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice. (13) And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entrance of the cave...
(1) In the third month after the children of Israel had gone out of the land of Egypt, that very day they came into the wilderness of Sinai! (2) And they departed from Rephidim, and came to the wilderness of Sinai, they encamped in the wilderness; and there Israel encamped before the mount.
(7) Then the angel of GOD came a second time, and touched him, and said: ‘Get up! Eat! Because the journey is too great for thee.’ (8) So he got up, and ate and drank, and with the strength of that meal, went forty days and forty nights to Horeb the mount of GOD.
