מַטַל נְבוּאֲתָא עַל קַרְתָּא דְיַתְבָא בְחֵילְתָא דְאִתְנַבִּיאוּ עֲלָהּ נְבִיַיָא מָה לְכוֹן כְּדֵין אֲרֵי סְלֵקְתּוּן כּוּלְכוֹן לְאִגָרַיָא: The Burden Of The Prophecy Concerning The City That Dwelleth In The Valley, Of Which The Prophets Prophesied. What aileth you here, that all of you are gone up to the house tops?
מִן קֳדָם אִתְרְגוּשָׁא דְאִתְמְלִיאַת קַרְתָּא מְשַׁבַּחְתָּא כְּרַכָּא חֲדָאָה קְטִילַיִךְ לָא אִתְקְטִילוּ בְחַרְבָּא וְאַף בִּקְרָבָא לָא מִיתוּ: On account of the tumult wherewith the praiseworthy, the fortified, the joyous city is filled. Thy slain were not slain by the sword, neither did they die in battle.
כָּל שִׁלְטוֹנַיִךְ אִטַלְטַלוּ כַחֲדָא מִן קֳדָם מְתַח קַשְׁתָּא גְלוֹ כָּל דְאִשְׁתַּכַּח בִּיךְ אִיתְקְטְלוּ כַחֲדָא מֵרָחִיק עֲרַקוּ: All thy rulers have been led forth; from before the bent bow, they are gone into captivity together: all that were found in thee have been slain, together they have fled afar.
עַל כֵּן אֲמַרֵית שְׁבוּקוּ מִנִי אֶבְכֵּי בִמְרָר לָא תִתְבְּעִיתוּ לְנַחֲמוּתִי עַל תְּבַר כְּנִשְׁתָּא דְעַמִי: Wherefore I said: Leave off from me, I will weep bitterly, seek ye not to comfort me for the desolation of the congregation of my people.
אֲרֵי יוֹם רְגוּשׁ וְאִתְּדָשָׁא וּקְטוֹל קֳדָם יְיָ אֱלָהֵי צְבָאוֹת עַל קַרְתָּא דְיַתְבָא בְחֵילְתָא דְאִתְנַבִּיאוּ עֲלָהּ נְבִיַיָא מַבְלְשִׁין בָּתַּיָא מַקְפִין מִגְדְלַיָא בְּרֵישֵׁי טוּרַיָא: For it is a day of tumult, and of treading under foot, and of slaughter before the Lord, the God of hosts, against the city that dwelleth in the valley, against which the prophets prophesied. Thy search the houses, they encompass the towers which are on the tops of the mountains.
וְעֵילֵמָאֵי נְטָלוּ זְיָן בִּרְתָךְ אֱנָשׁ וְעִמֵהּ זוֹג פָּרָשִׁין וְעַל שׁוּר דְבַקוּ תְרֵיסִין: And the Elamites have taken arms in the chariot of a man, and with him are a couple of horsemen, and on the wall they hang the shields.
וַהֲוָה שְׁפַר מִשְׁרָךְ אִתְמְלִיאוּ רְתִיכִין וּפָרָשִׁין מְמַנָן עַל תַּרְעִין: And it shall come to pass that the most beautiful of thy valleys shall be filled with chariots; and the horsemen shall be set against the gates.
וְגַלֵי יַת מַטְמוֹרִית בֵּית יְהוּדָה וְאִסְתְּכֵי בְּעִדָנָא הַהִיא עַל זְיַן בֵּית גִנְזֵי מַקְדְשָׁא: And he shall discover the covering of Judah, and he shall look at that time upon the arms of the house of the treasury of the sanctuary.
וְיַת פְּלוּגַת קַרְתָּא דְדָוִד חֲזֵיתוּן אֲרֵי סַגִיאַת וְכַנֵישְׁתּוּן יַת עַמָא לְמֵי בְרִיכְתָּא אַרְעִיתָא: And the breaches of the city of David ye shall see, because they are many; and ye shall gather together the people to the lower pool.
וְיַת בָּתֵּי יְרוּשְׁלֵם מְנִיתוּן וְתָרַעֲתּוּן בָּתַּיָא לְתַקָפָא שׁוּרָא: And ye shall number the houses of Jerusalem, and ye shall break down the houses to fortify the wall.
וּמִקְוַיָא עֲבַדְתּוּן בֵּין שׁוּרַיָא לְמֵי בְּרֵכְתָּא עַתִּיקְתָּא וְלָא אִסְתַּכַּלְתּוּן בִּדְעָבְדָהּ וְדֵי בְרָאָהּ מִלְקָדְמִין לָא חֲזֵיתוּן: And ye shall make a lake between the walls of the water of the old pool: but ye have not looked unto the maker thereof, neither had respect unto him that created it of old.
וְאַכְלֵי נְבִיָא דַייָ אֱלֹהִי צְבָאוֹת בְּיוֹמָא הַהוּא לְמִבְכֵּי וּלְמִסְפֵּד וּלְגִזוּז רֵישׁ וּלְמֵיסַר סַקִין: And the prophet of the Lord, the God, the God of hosts, called in that day to weeping, and to mourning, and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth:
וְהָא בִּיַע וְחֶדְוָה אָמְרִין נִקְטוֹל תוֹרִין וְנִנְכַס עָאן נֵיכוּל בְּסַר וְנִשְׁתֵּי חֲמַר נֵיכוּל וְנִשְׁתֵּי מִדִנְמוּת לָא נְחֵי: But, behold, joy and gladness; they say, Let us slay oxen, and kill sheep, we will eat flesh, we will drink wine; let us eat, and drink, since we shall die, and not live.
אֲמַר נְבִיָא בְאוּדְנִי הֱוֵיתִי שְׁמַע כַּד אִתְגְזַר דָא מִן קֳדָם יְיָ צְבָאוֹת אִם יִשְׁתְּבַק חוֹבָא הָדֵין לְכוֹן עַד דִי תְמוּתוּן מוֹתָא תִנְיָנָא אֲמַר יְיָ אֱלֹהִים צְבָאוֹת: The prophet said, with mine ears I was hearing when this was decreed from before the Lord of hosts, namely, that this your iniquity shall not be forgiven you till you die the second death, said the Lord, the God, the God of hosts.
כִּדְנֵן אֲמַר יְיָ אֱלֹהִים צְבָאוֹת אֱתָא אֱזֵיל לְוַת פַרְנָסָא הָדֵין לְוַת שֶׁבְנָא דִי מְמַנָא עַל בֵּיתָא: Thus said the Lord, the God, the God of hosts, Come, go to this ruler, even to Shebna, who is appointed over the house.
וְתֵימַר לֵיהּ מַה לָךְ כָּא מַה לָךְ כְּדֵין אֲרֵי אַתְקְנִית לָךְ כָּא אֲתַר אַתְקִין בְּרוּמָא אַתְרֵהּ שַׁוֵי בְּכֵיפָּא בֵּית מְדוֹרֵהּ: And thou shalt say to him, What hast thou here? and what hast thou here, that thou hast prepared for thyself here a place? He hath prepared on high his place! he hath put in the rock the place of his habitation!
הָא יְיָ מְטַלְטְלָךְ טִלְטוּל דְגַבְרָא וְתַחֲפִינָךְ בַּהֲתָא: Behold, the Lord will cast thee out with a mighty casting out, and confusion shall cover thee.
יַעְדֵי מִנָךְ יַת מִצְנֶפְתָּא וְיַקִיפוּנָךְ בַּעֲלֵי דְבַב כְּשׁוּר מַקַף וְיַגְלוּנָךְ לְאַרְעָא פְתַיוּת יְדַיִין תַּמָן תְּמוּת וּלְתַמָן רְתִיכֵי יְקָרָךְ יְתוּבוּן בְּקָלָן עַל דְלָא נְטַרְתָּא יְקָר בֵּית רִבּוֹנָךְ: He shall take away from thee thy tiara, and the enemies shall enclose thee, like a surrounding wall, and they shall lead thee into captivity into a spacious country, there thou shalt die, and thither the chariots of thy glory shall return in disgrace, because thou hast not preserved the honours of thy master's house.
וְאַדְחִינָךְ מִמְקוֹמָךְ וּמִשַׁמוּשָׁךְ יְמַגְרִינָךְ: And I will thrust thee down from thy station, and I will divest thee of thy office.
וִיהֵי בְּעִדָנָא הַהִיא וְאַרְבֵּי לְעַבְדֵי לְאֶלְיָקִים בַּר חִלְקִיָהוּ: And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will make my servant Eliakim great, the son of Hilkiah.
וְאַלְבְּשִׁנֵיהּ כִּתּוּנָךְ וְהֶמְיָנָךְ אֲזַרְזִנֵהּ וְשׁוּלְטָנָךְ אֶתֵּן בִּידֵהּ וִיהֵי לְאַב לְיַתְבֵי יְרוּשְׁלֵם וּלְבֵית יְהוּדָה: And I will clothe him with thy robe, and with thy girdle I will gird him, and I will commit thy government into his hand, and he shall be a prince to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah.
וְאֶתֵּן מַפְתֵּחַ בֵּית מִקְדְשָׁא וְשׁוּלְטַן בֵּית דָוִד וְיִפְתַּח וְלֵית דְאָחִיד וְיֵיחוֹד וְלֵית דְפָתַח: And I will place the key of the house of the sanctuary, and the government of the house of David, in his hand; and he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.
וְאֶמַנִנֵיהּ אַמַרְכֶּל מְהֵימָן מְשַׁמֵשׁ בַּאֲתַר קַיָם וִיהֵי לְכוּרְסֵי יְקָר לְבֵית אֲבוּהִי: And I will appoint him a faithful chief-governor, an officer in a firm place, and he shall be for a glorious throne to his father's house.
וְיִסְתַּמְכוּן עֲלוֹהִי כָּל יַקִירֵי בֵית אָבוּהִי בְּנַיָא וּבְנֵי בְנַיָא מֵרַבְרְבַיָא וְעַד דְעַדְקַיָא מִכַּהֲנַיָא לָבְשֵׁי אֵפוֹדָא וְעַד בְּנֵי לֵוִי אֶחֲדֵי נִבְלַיָא: All the nobles of his father's house shall rest themselves upon him, children, and children's children, from young men to little ones, from the priests clothed with the ephod to the Levites that are holding the lyres.
בְּעִדָנָא הַהִיא אֲמַר יְיָ צְבָאוֹת יַעְדֵי אַמַרְכֶּל מְהֵימָן דִי מְשַׁמֵשׁ בַּאֲתַר קַיָם וְיִתְקַטֵף וְיִפוֹל וְתִבְטַל מְטַל נְבוּאֲתָא דִי עֲלוֹהִי אֲרֵי בְמֵימְרָא דַייָ גְזַר כֵּן: At that time, saith the Lord of hosts, there shall be removed the faithful chief governor, who ministered in a firm place, and he shall be cut off, and he shall fall: and there shall be accomplished the burden of prophecy, which was concerning him; because the WORD of the Lord hath so decreed it.
