— Hiph. - הֵתִיר he spied out, he made a reconnaissance.
— Pi. - תִּיֵּר 1 he showed the way; 2 he made a tour.
— Pu. - תֻּיַּר was visited by tourists. [Syr. תָּאַר (= he contemplated, meditated), Chr.-Pal. תאר, Samar. תור, תער (= he considered, understood), Arab. tāra (= he went around), tāra (= once, sometimes, at times), Akka. tāru (= to turn about, turn back), taiāru (= turning back, also ‘merciful’). Accordingly the orig. meaning of this base was ‘to turn about’. From this meaning developed that of ‘to spy out, explore’. cp. מְרַגֵּל (= spy), from רֶגֶל (= foot), and Akka. dayyalu (= spy, explorer), from dālu (= to go round). However, Barth compares Arab. ta’ra (= he looked around sharply). cp. תאר.] Derivatives: תּוּר, תָּר, תַּיָּר, תִּיּוּר, תִּירָה, תַּיְּרָנוּת, תַּיּֽרָנִי. cp. תּוֹר ᴵᴵ. cp. also יְתוּר.
