BAram. and Aram. זְמַן, Syr. זַבֽנָא, c. st. זְבַן, whence also Arab. zaman, zamān, Mehri zemōn and zubōn, Ethiop. zaman (= time), which are prob. borrowed from Akka. simānu (= fixed date, time). The derivation from Old Persian zrvan, zrvāna (= time), is justly questioned. cp. the month names זִיו and סִיוָן. cp. also אֱשׁוּן, סמן.] Derivatives: זָמִין, זמן, זִמְנָה, זְמַנִּי, תִּזְמֹנֶת.
