שׁבט to strike, smite.
    — Qal - שָׁבַט PBH 1 he pressed the weaving rod; NH 2 he beat, struck.
    — Niph. - נִשֽׁבַּט 1 was pressed (said of the weaving rod); 2 was beaten, was struck.
    — Pi. - שִׁבֵּט he beat, knocked, struck. [JAram. שֽׁבַט (= he struck, smote), Akka. shabātu (= to beat, kill, destroy). The Syr. v. שַׁבֵּט (= he beat out, hammered), and Ethiop. v. zabaṭa (= he fell), are prob. denominated. Base of שֵׁבֶט. cp. שֽׁבָט.] Derivatives: שִׁבּוּט ᴵᴵ, שְׁבִיטָה.
