עָלַב to press upon; to arrogate superiority; to humiliate, insult. Gitt. 36ᵇ; Yoma 23ᵃ הנֶעֱלָבִין ואינן עוֹלְבִין וכ׳ those who are insulted, and do not insult, hear themselves reviled &c., v. חֶרְפָּה; Sabb. 88ᵇ עֲלוּבִין וכ׳ (Ms. M. הנעלבין).—V. עָלוּב.
    Nif. - נֶעֱלָב to be insulted, submit to humiliation, v. supra.
